From the stairway, the third floor of the tower appears to consist entirely of a single narrow passage ending in a window. Actually, it runs back past the stairs in a dog-leg and slants off down to a second window at the other end. This far end of the corridor is bright, warm and quiet, as well as being out of sight from the stairs; the window-sill makes a pleasant refuge.

At both ends of the corridor, a pair of doors face each other across the passage. A single large storeroom lies to the left of the stairs, with one door of each pair leading into it — the other two doors belong to two separate lavatories.
