Extract: "Britain's Dancing Lady Puts Motherhood First". Illustration of Jessie and Sonnie in their Hampton home from the end of a fan article celebrating in typical gushing style, Jessie's 1934 pregnancy.

FILM PICTORIAL, SEP 8 1934

Jessie Matthews — woman as well as Film Star — by Maud. M. Miller

[...]Her house at Hampton is not a palace. It is not the background of a film star. It is a home, first, last and always, with a husband and wife as inmates, not a married couple whose sole idea of recreation is parties and then more parties.

SONNIE HALE's recreation is his farm. Jessie's her dancing studio. They compromise when Jessie helps Sonnie to collect the eggs from the scattered hencoops, and when Sonnie, in turn, looks after the gramophone for Jessie's dancing.

Now both are tremendously thrilled by the thought of the Greatest Adventure of all — parenthood.
