The first floor of the Ivory Tower is mainly taken up by the storage and preparation of food. It also boasts the only 'lift' in the entire tower — a box-like wooden column running from stone floor to plastered ceiling that is the first thing most people notice when leaving the staircase.

Most of the space on this floor is taken up by the cavernous kitchen. However, part of the room has been walled off on the far side to form two smaller enclaves known as the larder and the pantry.
